II.1: Castle Amber (151 Coirë 13 - 152 Tuilë 6; 1982 December -1983 February)

Background and summary: Half of Party on Isle of Dread wake up one morning, and find themselves together with two old friends - Sinetta and Elinor - just outside a huge mansion. All around is a magical haze. The Party meets various strange members of the Amber family in their bizarre mansion. They find out there is a curse to be broken. When they succeed, they find themselves back on Isle of Dread; but the rest of the party has already sailed home, so they have to build a new boat from scratch and then sail home.

II.2: Dwellers of the Forbidden City (152 Hrivë 44 - 58; 1983 March - April + October - November)

Background and summary: Wishing to put their newly built boat to good use, the Party sails to Lahore in Ditya, an exotic land far to the west, beyond Astarah. There, they find that several caravan routes have begun suffering significant losses due to raiders who appear to have teleportation ability (actually, the raiders teleport the caravans to them, and never leave their base). The Party tracks down their base in a ruined city, fights their way in, and destroys the raiders. When they return to Lahore, they find that their newly built boat has been sunk, together with nearly all other boats in the city.

II.3: Clergy of Ptah (152 Coirë 25 - 32; 1983 December - 1984 March)

Background and summary: In Lahore (population over 300,000), the Party becomes embroiled in city-sized political intrigue, as well as internal intrigue; the Party is ultimately overwhelmed by the machinations.

The urban plots:

one of the local Thieves Guild sees the Party as a small fortune on naive feet, ripe for the picking
Hekate Temple in foreigners quarter tries to help Party in doing deeds that the Army is attempting to do (such as dealing with whatever sunk most of the city’s ships), so as to embarrass the Army
Ptah Temple also wants the Party to embarrass the Army, but wants them ultimately to fail (and thus discredit Hekate Temple) because they’re secretly allied with the aquatic creatures that sunk the ships
Coronu (the Lich, back near Ikon - see Bone Hill) manipulates 'Sheh (magically) and the Party (via Elinor’s local mentor, Maria [M3/T8]) against the Ptahists, as 'Sheh’s father (also a Lich) is associated with the Ptahists and is an old foe of Coronu

On top of these plots, Gandalf hatches one of his own. Killed in the last adventure by Elinor, but raised by 'Sheh, he blames Sinetta for rallying the Party against him. Revenge is planned on a grand and convoluted scale, which just adds to the confusion caused by the urban plots.

and so Gandalf changes his itinerary and gets off the boat a short distance from Lahore

C29 after several arguments, things get drastic between 'Sheh and Afm Hec (now a Doppleganger): 'Sheh challenges "Afm" to a duel, and accidentally kills him. Realising they had a Doppleganger in their midst, Party becomes ultra-cautious:Party changes inns every night, and several members (Tredorm and Oozzoo, in particular) spend each night at a village just outside of the city. A local goodly sort becomes intrigued with the Party's activities and convinces them she'd be of use; Gailithian (F3/M2) joins.
C30 two separate attacks on Party:
6 Thieves, hired unknowingly by the Ptahists, attack Elinor and Sinetta at 3 am in their inn (able to find Party via Locate Object on minor belongings of Afm, now with Sinetta); Elinor's mentor in the Thieves Guild, Maria, alerts E and S moments before the attack, allowing them to call for help from city watch and defeat the Thieves; one Thief is captured; examining bodies reveals each have a small tattoo behind an ear, a mark of Ptah; upon finding out that he was hired by Ptahists (whom he hates), he vows to serve the Party: Polo (F5/T6) joins. This joining almost ends later that day when Gailithian, obsessed with law and order, urges innkeeper to press charges against Polo (for damages done to building); but Sinetta and Elinor bribe off the police and innkeeper.
at 6 am, a patrol of "soldiers" calls on 'Sheh, Oozzoo, Tredorm, and Gailithian (who are in an inn outside of the city): they say that Sinetta and Elinor died that morning in a very messy battle, and could they please come into the city for questioning? They begin walking to the city, but just when they've left the village the patrol suddenly attacks them; Oozzoo's ESP alerts them, though, and the Party defeats them. One attacker survives, and is put in jail; Speak with Dead is cast on the leader (Ethalia), which reveals that they were sent by Ptahists.

Coincidentally, Gandalf had planned his big attack on Sinetta for later that morning; he had elaborately planned to hit Sinetta first with Exploding Runes (in a letter), then a Fireball (from a scroll), and then use his Ring of Telekinesis to drop a 50 kg statue from a great height onto the roof of Sinetta's room; the attack by the Thieves, however, prompted Sinetta and Elinor to leave their inn before this all could occur; Gandalf is forced to devise new plan.
C32 Party goes to Ptah Temple and demands explanation for all the intrigue against them. Get somewhat satisfactory answer as well as clues concerning a greater mystery they had been uncovering. Then go to a Sage named Omara, as directed by Maria, who tells them about the Old Ones and the possible return of the great and terrifying god Hastur.

Based on this info, they head north for the Dead City of Hilla; Gailithian leaves (actually, she was abandoned by the Party as they were in a hurry and she was not willing to alter her daily routine to keep up)

II.4: Dead City of Hilla (153 Coirë 33 - Tuilë 16; 1984 March - July)

Summary: The Party learns that some pretty nasty folk are arranging for the freeing of Hastur, a long forgotten and very nasty deity that is imprisoned beneath the dead city of Hilla, in the desert wasteland north of Lahore. Rumour has it that the nasty folk come in three forms: some magic/psionic-using beings in heavy cloaks (the “cowled ones”); their hideous 3-legged, 5-footed, 2-headed mounts (barbarian Puppeteers); and strange, golden-skinned and golden-armoured warriors. The last time Hastur was active, some 4500 years ago, Dafan was nearly destroyed. Hastur apparently can only be released at a certain, precise point in time - which is very soon - so the Party only needs to interrupt whatever they’re up to, rather than kill all the nasties. Besides this being a Good Deed, there is also a reward of 15,000sp offered in Lahore.

The Party sneaks past many enemy military units in the desert and arrives at the city. It has been abandoned for a long time, but has some sacred value to the local nomads; they have permitted the “cowled ones” to enter and work in the ruins, but do not like nor trust them. The Party is able to exploit this mistrust in order to gain information. They spy on the activities of the “cowled ones”, follow them underground, and ultimately interrupt their ritual to free Hastur.

II.5: Forest of Doom (153 Lairë 3 - 8; 1984 September - October)

Summary: Having apparently saved the world, and not wanting to return to the intrigues of Lahore, the Party decides to do Good Deeds in the countryside. A group of Drow have taken up residence in an enormous sycamore tree, and are annoying the neighbourhood with their minions. The Party very efficiently deals with the Drow.

II.6: Moon Bog 1 (153 Yavië 45 - Coirë 27; 1984 November - 1985 January)

Summary: Arriving back in Ikon, the Party hears of trouble coming out of Marmon Marsh, a very dangerous region on the eastern border of Vridi territory. It turns out that lizardfolk and other nuisances are being driven out by growing numbers of undead, which are in turn the result of a side-effect of both the re-imprisonment of Hastur 4500 years ago and the Party’s recent last-minute prevention of Hastur’s release (see Dead City of Hilla).

The Party enters the Marsh and finds hill-top ruins that transport them back to about a century after the big turmoil of 4500 years ago, a time when the locals were trying to rebuild their world. Unfortunately, a powerful Spirit Naga has been secretly charming the population, hoping to turn them into followers of Ithaqua Windwalker, an ally of Hastur. The Party defeats the Naga, over the unwitting and violent objections of the locals, and then return to their original time. Other than a final but brief exodus of undead, the Marsh reverts to its usual quiet, dangerous state.

II.7: Moon Bog 2 (154 Quellë 22 - Coirë 41; sometime in 1985)

Summary: 'Sheh, Oozzoo, and a few newcomers use the time travel phenomenon found in Marmon Marsh to return to the distant past, in order to find out more about what happened back then, and why anyone now would seriously want to release Hastur again. They end up in a different, not quite so distant past, but are still able to find some useful information. When they return, they find that war has broken out, and that Ikon has fallen.

What do 'Sheh and Oozzoo do next?

In the Castle Amber adventure, 'Sheh was apparently bequeathed an unidentified title in Glantri. She finally decides to go to Glantri and check this out in early 155. She goes with Oozzoo, Telavaria, and Pelmuc; they travel by boat to Astarah and then overland. On the way, they hear and see many signs of warfare, often involving Hobgoblins and often seemingly connected to the war in and about the Vridi Empre. The journey is not uneventful, and Telavaria bumps to T6/R2 while 'Sheh bumps to C8/R2; they train after reaching Glantri.

When they arrive in Glantri City (Lairë 18), 'Sheh makes inquiries. Lo and behold, it is true: 3727 years ago, 'Sheh was granted a fairly significant title of Glantri! She meets her apparent descendants – the Kettu family (Finns, with significant Vanyar blood) – and is treated to a warm welcome and cautious respect (it’s not every day that a renowned and long-gone ancestor walks in the door). The family records mention her as a quite noteworthy figure. Unfortunately, there is only terse record of her early life and of her surprising rise to becoming head of the clan, so 'Sheh cannot tell whether she was actually born in a previous life back then, or somehow transported back in time. Much more puzzling, though, is the fact that she is never recorded as having died or abdicated; she simply ceased being the family head one day, and replaced by one of her early rivals.

'Sheh and Oozzoo also spend time trying to convince Glantri officials that the latest outbreak of war in Vridistan is of greater concern than normal, for an unusual amount of seemingly related Hobgoblin activity has been occuring in many parts of the continent. Glantri has not been particularly concerned, as the nearest combat is between the Dwarves of Ut-Khuzdul and Hobgoblins in the mountains to their south; and any opponent of the Dwarves can’t be all that bad, can it?

Eventually, 'Sheh is able to meet with the Ruling Council of Glantri, to deal with the issues of her title and the War. While waiting for them to decide, Oozzoo intercepts a band of assassins trailing 'Sheh. After he and a few others kill all the assassins, a few Speak with Dead spells reveal that they were sent from Vridistan not to kill 'Sheh, but to incriminate her (they had already done a number of dastardly deeds, leaving clues pointing to her), apparently so as to undermine her efforts to bring Glantri into the War. This revelation may have backfired against Vridistan, for shortly afterwards the Ruling Council votes to begin offering minor and subtle aid to a variety of (non-Dwarven) states being attacked by allies of Vridistan.

As for the bizarre magical title which has befallen 'Sheh, in the end she is offered by the Kettu family their obligatory border territory along the Dan river, across from the wild Rikkusuo lands to the south. Her obligation is to rule the territory (about 65 square km), pay and equip its troops, defend the land, and collect rent from the peasants. So on 155 Yavië 12, 'Sheh is formally adopted into the Kettu family and becomes Lady of a small keep near the town of Savola. She makes Oozzoo captain of her guard, and hires Annikki (R1/M0) as her personal servant.

'Sheh also accepts a short mission on behalf of Kettu. Leaving Oozzoo in charge of the keep, she and 8 others Teleport (via ancient Elven Gates) into the Elven forest just outside Vridistan, and steal some magical possessions belonging to the Emperor (Yavië 18). The items are not particularly powerful, but apparently of considerable symbolic value.

While in the neighbourhood, she travels to the Konashire Elves near Ikon and finds 3 of her children who are living with their father, Martin the Ranger. She brings the children back to Savola; Martin refuses to go with her, and instead stays with Kaija. 'Sheh also checks in with Yoseph Schmenglfinger, whom she had hired to keep tabs on Sinetta. As well, she trains to R3. Then she visits Valashi (Yavië 50), and establishes formal ties between the Ikon Mages Guild and the ruling Mages of Glantri.

While in Ikon, she meets up with an old friend, Tse (Quellë 12). She joins her Party and goes north to Pharaoh’s Tomb. Oozzoo, Telavaria, and Pelmuc remain in Glantri.
