Background
and History: Born in Sabraig, a non-adventured region of Telenet.
Teleported to Dafan with family by accident at age 8, and grew up there.
Became widely known in Dafan as a hard drinker and heavy cusser, and
never met a magic sword he didn't want; whether said sword already belonged
to someone else was immaterial. His charge-first, ask-questions-never
style saw him die more times than he'd have preferred, with one of his
more memorable moments coming while dead – he was appointed Loki's champion
in a battle with another character; he won,
but lost a leg in the process, and for his victory was returned to life.
At this point he retired and wrote his now-famous treatise on the field
testing of magic items; he also married the beautiful thief Helga Groasdattir,
who had been a party running mate and partner in crime for some time.
A freak
occurrence during an already-bizarre Dafan all-star game restored both
his leg and his will to adventure. However, shortly after this a cataclysm
hit Dafan and all attention turned to escape; he and Helga managed this
by virtue of plane-shifting to Riveria a year or two later. Once here,
he linked up with several other expatriate Dafanites over time; all
had concluded their old world was no more and were doing what they could
to build a new life here.
Lanefan
too tried to settle down; he built and opened a pub catering to the
large company of adventurers he fell in with, but the lure of adventuring
proved too strong and drew him out into the field on several different
occasions "to keep his hand in". Unfortunately, he met with
the opposite result: at one point he lost (and had restored) an arm,
making him the only character ever to lose more than one limb during
a career. Helga also did some adventuring while here, and met her final
demise on the plane of Niflheim along with several other old-time Dafanites,
much to Lanefan's grief.
Incredibly,
shortly after this an amazing co-incidence led Lanefan to realize "Dafan"
still existed, in a much-mutated form and having somehow lost about
200 years of its time. So, he rounded up what few Dafan ex-pats he
could still find and plane-shifted back there; he and they are still
in process of trying to sort out what has happened to the world they
knew, and to adjust to this "New"
Dafan.
