7 Pirates II

Background: While the Party is dead, civil war in Khaldor breaks out once more (March 286). Since Queen Timandra's assassination in 276, there has been much turmoil in Khaldor. In 281, Timandra's sister Laodike ascended the throne; however, she was assassinated in 284. Laodike's son Kastor has been King since, but with difficulties. In particular, his half-brother has been an uneasy rival: Prince Sauros, the "Ugly Uncle," son of Ulf Flatnose (the legendary explorer of Axenian lands). Over the winter of 286/287 Sauros's disloyalty came to the forefront, and on March 20, he fled with a sizable following of loyal ships. It is rumoured that he went to the pirates of Fang Islands, led by "Queen" Phaedra, whom the Party had dealings with the previous summer. His most obvious reason is to buy troops (he has a lot of money). Reward for Sauros' head is 10,000 sp, plus another 4,500 sp for various noble accomplices.

As is, the pirates have been very bold this spring. Freyvalla, Malmesbury, and even Khaldor have been attacked (Khaldor did quite successfully repulse the attack). Khaldor therefore has good reason to strike at them. Two expeditions were sent out in April. Several pirate bases in the Fang Isles were flattened, but each time one or more pirate boats escape, being far too fast and seemingly invincible. On May 15, the Khaldorians suffer a major setback: King Kastor's eldest daughter, Captain Klymene, is captured. Ransom demanded for 25,000 sp; Sauros is suspected of being involved at this point.

May 17: Arlephone hires Bolo (Mk1) as henchperson.

May 21: Hrudi commissions war hammer; hires John Thomas (B1) as henchperson.

May 22: Darkmoon gets sword repaired; returns with Barin (WrC1), who joins.

June 8: Shawn arranges for rental of (his) boat, the Persephone, captained by Xerxa. Crew includes Dern (F1), Telchar (F1), and Aded (F1), who later join party.

June 8-11: sail to the Fang Isles.

June 11: defeat 14 pirates on Pyros, capturing 12.

Jumped by 12 ghouls: only Darkmoon and Hrudi remain standing, Bolo killed.

June 12: rescue prince Pallas (F) and Prince Diapolis (Klymene's half-brother), who had been on secret mission to rescue Klymene (their boat sank May 27). Party offered reward for their rescue (and that of Klymene), and tell of Klymene's suspected location (island of Porra).

June 13: defeat 6 fire elementals; Darkmoon and Barin killed.

June 13-14: Sail to Priene:

June 14: Darkmoon raised from the dead; Pallas joins party; Prince Diapolis remains in Priene.

June 16: Merry (NtC1), Pippin (NtC1), and Samwise (NrC1) join the party (recruited by Shawn).

June 16-17: return to Fang Isles:

June 17: captured by Golden Phaedra, aboard the ghost ship "Chaos." Darkmoon let free, but stays on board.

June 18: taken to island of Porra, one of Phaedra's bases. Everyone shackled in a cabin, except Darkmoon; Phaedra knows her, and offers her a spot in the crew (an offer which Darkmoon pretends to accept).

June 19: Khaldorian navy arrives at Porra, and begins bombardment; Dern and Telchar killed. Party escapes and rescues Princess Klymene (with help of Darkmoon and Anna, servant of Klymene). Anna leads them into tunnel complex outside town walls. Fight minotaurs and Anna (actually a doppleganger): Merry killed, as are two rescued prisoners.

June 20: meet a small group of Dwarves who are spying on Phaedra. Talk.

June 20-22: Dwarves teleport party into Kaska mountains, in groups of 3 at 12 hour intervals.

June 22-25: walk north out of Kaska mountains into Hobbit lands.

June 24: fight some Wolves and Orcs; Aded killed. Meet outlaws Hamfast (T1) and Heyokah (NtC1), who join party.

June 28: Arrive in Malmesbury. Pallas leaves, on errand for Klymene, who remains in Malmesbury.
