1-1 Orcs in Husavik

Background and Summary: Two exchange students – Mei-Peng and Zarine, necromancers from Hestia – are visiting the Norse town of Uvdal. Their host, Tostig the Mage, suggests they take a trip to a few nearby settlements, to see the local ways and meet a few other mages. Some locals and some other visitors to Uvdal join on the outing. The first stop of note is the abandoned city of Husavik – there have been some strange tales over the past years concerning the ruins, in particular the reputed digging up of graves, which could be of interest to the necromancers.

The party finds several dozen Orcs excavating the old central square. After killing most of the Orcs, the party finds what the Orcs were after: a strange metallic rock in a secure chest. When Jasmine touches the rock, the entire party is teleported to an abandoned underground Fire Giant temple complex on a small island about 20 km. offshore. The party clears out the few inhabitants, and find that the island has an Orc village on it. After several bloody battles with the Orcs, the Orcs pick up their possessions and sail away, leaving the party stranded with just one wrecked boat. After several days of repairs, the party sails/rows to shore and walks back to Uvdal.

Eostre 3

Party sets off from Uvdal.

Eostre 4 arrive at village of Åbo.
Eostre 5 just as come within sight of Husavik, they meet Beqk, who is tracking 4 Goblins. Party meets and kills the Goblins. Beqk (Cvr1) joins Party.

  Vishu, Jasmine, and Tamaran sneak to Husavik, and observe Orcs; Jasmine finds boats and vandalises them; rest of the Party naively walks up to the town, and is attacked by Orcs. Party retreats as alarm is sounded.
Eostre 6 Jasmine sneaks back into Husavik and surveys the Orc activities.

  Party sneaks into Husavik. Big battle with the Orcs; Party is victorious and takes 2 captives (chained up traitors).
(S20)  
  Party finds what the Orcs were excavating: a strange metallic rock in a secure chest. Jasmine touches the rock, and the Party is teleported to an unknown underground complex. Party explores a bit, and find they are in an abandoned Fire Giant temple. An old Ogre wanders in, and the Party kills it.
  The Party starts to explore the complex, and eventually find an exit to the surface, and find that they are near a shore; they stay underground for now, however. They meet and kill some large bugs and some grubby Goblins.

Eostre 7 While resting the night, 15 giant bugs invade the room. Wiqccli killed, and 2 others mortally wounded (Beqk and Zarine). Tamaran goes herb hunting outdoors, and finds 2 castaways, survivors of a recent boat wreck. Kera (NtC1) and Razzle (MU1) join; Kera cures Beqk and Zarine, keeping them from dying. Kera and Razzle tell Party that they are on a small island, about 20 km. offshore.

Eostre 8 Party continues to exploring the complex, and meet the undead organist. Only Beqk and Kera survive its fearful gaze; all the others flee. They find they cannot harm the organist, but that it doesn't really attack them. They eventually attack the organ, which dispels the organist. The Party returns and dismantle the organ.
  Jasmine strums on a lute found by the organ, and drives half the party temporarily insane. Aknot attacks Jasmine, and she stops playing. Jasmine wanders out of the room to discretely cure herself; Mei-Peng follows her, and announces to the Party that their "Thief" is also a Cleric.
  Beqk discovers the usefulness of magic user cantrips: Razzle casts Clean on her shiny armour.
Eostre 9 Start exploring the island, and find an Orc community living in an abandoned coal mining village. Jasmine sneaks in and vandalises 3 of their 4 boats. Others then sneak in and take a captive. Under questioning, Iktrik mentions that “treaties have been broken”, and thus raids on Human-held lands are going to increase.

  Back inside the complex, Razzle goes into a magically hidden Gnome tunnel, and finds the diary and possessions of Glittersnikk, an enslaved Gnome who worked in the complex 126 years ago.
Eostre 10 Party realises that the Orcs have figured out where they are hiding out. They attack 2 groups of Orcs that were watching the entrance to the complex; Vishu and Tamaran almost killed.

  While Party recovers from the battle, the Orcs collapse the entrance to the complex. Fortunately, the Party knows a tight goblin tunnel that leads out, about which the Orcs do not seem to be aware.
Eostre 11 Party sneaks to he Orc village, finds that the dilapidated buildings are mostly abandoned, and head into one of the tunnels. They encounter 19 Orcs plus Ducky the Ogre. The Party defeat them (Ducky survives), and then beat a hasty retreat.

Eostre 13 Well-rested, the Party sneaks back to the tunnels. The Orcs have clearly been expecting another assault and await with all their numbers; while a major frontal battle begins, Ducky leads a group of Orcs around the Party's back; those Orcs die, but Ducky kills Zarine in one swing, and soon afterwards kills Tamaran before being killed. The Party fights their way out (with only 4 members above 0 hit points).

Eostre 14 While the Party recovers, Mei-Peng attempts to embalm Zarine's body. She has only limited success, but does determine that the mud baths in the complex have some beneficial powers in that regard.
Eostre 16 Party recovers, and finds that the surviving Orcs have fled with all their loot in the one undamaged boat. Jasmine is outraged that Orcs have stolen what should have been the Party's booty.
  Party searches all the tunnels, and finds little of interest. In the main hearth, however, they find the charred remains of documents, some of which they can salvage. They indicate some sort of co-operation between the Orcs and some group on the mainland (names and species unknown). They also describe the route to a meeting place of some sort; the descriptions indicate that the meeting was to occur in winter (perhaps just a few months ago?).
Eostre 19 After a few days, the Party has repaired one small boat, which proves seaworthy. Relying upon Kera's navigation skills they sail and row all day and night towards where the mainland should be.
Eostre 20 They come to a shore and beach the boat. That night, a Ghoul tries to drag off Aknot; Vishu and Kera destroy the Ghoul.
Eostre 21 Next morning, the Party explores their surroundings and determines they are but a short boat trip from known land. The winds are extremely unfavourable, however, so they decide to wait until the tide changes and they can use the tide and oars to make the journey. With a bit of time on their hands, they look about and find a wrecked long boat. 4 Ghouls awake and nearly wipe out the Party – all but Trafalgar and Kera avoid being paralysed, and defeat the last one. Beqk nearly dies, having been munched on by one Ghoul.

  That afternoon, they make the short trip across the bay, then beach and hide the boat. Travelling by foot now, they come to the main track between Husavik and Uvdal, where they travelled 3 weeks ago.
  They find a pile of Orc corpses burning, clearly the remains of a recent battle. While looking around for clues, a Dwarf named Riff comes steaming up the road, annoyed that he missed the battle; word in Uvdal the evening before was that some Orc raiders were in the countryside, and a band of locals had set out to find them; Riff only heard of the excitement several hours after they had left.
  Looking for something to do, Riff accompanies Beqk and Razzle as they head off towards Husavik to find Beqk's horse "Socks", who had been left behind when the Party teleported to the island.
Eostre 22 Socks is found, and the three turn around. Meanwhile, the rest of the Party arrives at Uvdal. Mei-Peng immediately arranges for the partially decayed remains of Zarine protected with a Preserve spell.
Eostre 23 The Party meets a visiting Elf named Shionna, who happens to be a captain of a ship. She helps the Party retrieve the beached ship.
Eostre 24 Beqk, Razzle, Socks, and Riff arrive at Uvdal.
   
Training Eostre 24 - Thri-Milce 8: Vishu, Beqk, Aknot, Jasmine (on her Thief side) all bumped to second level. Trafalgar and Kera are close enough that they can pre-train. Beqk, Aknot, and Jasmine train in Uvdal; Vishu, Trafalgar, and Kera walk 4 days to the big city of Yorvik for training.
