Background and Summary: A new Party decides to join an expedition
across the Great Sea, as some evidence points to there as being
the source of the enemy "outlanders". They find Norse
lands, as well as tales of heroic Dafanites of the past, meddling
Hestian traders, and an companion they thought they had left behind.

Shionna, Wethrin, Thorheim, and Tusa set sail across
the Great Sea on Shionna's ship (together with her crew of 6 Elves);
Kostbera (F8) joins, together with a longboat and crew of 14.
Winter sailing is never easy, but the trip is timed well and suffers
little storm damage. The voyage is also much shorter than expected,
based on the detail nautical maps obtained from the Trehellians; some
sort of teleportation event is suspected. |

Landfall. The coastline is quite barren; they sail north,
looking for signs of civilisation. |

Come to a village. The inhabitants are Norse,
the nation is Orustia; other than a slight dialect difference, everything
looks very similar to the culture that the Party knows. The locals
have no idea that people still live across the Great Sea, having migrated
from there after some great catastrophe a few centuries ago; this
does not fit with Shionna's vast knowledge of history. The Party stays
as guests for 3 days. |

Sail south along the coast, visiting various villages
and towns of Orustia. Everything looks very Norse, with only minor
differences compared to back home. Everyone they meet is amazed that
people still live across the Sea. Shionna and her elven ship is treated
with cautious respect - Elves are known and accepted, but very rare
in these parts. The Party inquires about tall spindly Humans (Trehellians)
and organised Orcs - the only word of such seems to be in a Norse
nation to the south named Husa, a land of many soft, pathetic, degenerate,
wussy weaklings (according to the Orustians). |
| Enyalios 7 (Lencten 7) |
Party continues south and visits in various
villages and towns of Leifland. In general, the Party is well received
as interesting strangers. Leifland is very much like Orustia and also
prides itself in not being like the soft, pathetic, degenerate, wussy
weaklings of Husa. Leifland and Orustia are currently at war, for
reasons that most locals don't recall nor care about; a few good raids
and skermishes each summer do them good, as far as both countries
are concerned. |
| |
In one town, Shionna learns of a strange
event two centuries ago - the divine arrival of champions of Forseti,
who saved a Lieflander prince captured by Orustian raiders. Among
the champions was a broom-flying Dwarf named Gutezapre, and others
that sound like the adventurers in an old tale called "Dogar
Marsh - to Rescue a Prince". In another town, they hear of
another tale set in Orustia involving many of the same champions:
"Ragnarok".
Clearly Dafanites have been here before! |
| Enyalios 16 (Lencten 16) |
The Party reaches Husa, or as it is formally
known, the Holy Husan Empire. While Norse in character, it is quite
different from Orustia and Liefland. It is a heavily populated and
urbanised mediaeval nation, most reminiscent of Anglia and Brunland.
It is also highly bureaucratic - Shionna has to teach the Party in
the ways of customs officials. |
| Enyalios 18 (Lencten 18) |
The Party comes to a large town, Bremminghaldt.
Here they are surprised to see Hestian cargo ships doing regular business.
Shionna attempts to talk with the Hestians, but is strangely rebuffed;
and soon the Party is descended upon by the local constabulary and
arrested. Wethrin and Thorheim manage to escape capture; the others
are hauled off to jail. |
| |
Wethrin and Thorheim soon blend in with
the local town riff-raff. Wethrin learns where the Party has gone,
and also that the Hestians have been trading here for years. Trehellians
are never seen in Bremminghaldt, but are known to exist in small numbers
in a few towns away from the main port towns - there is some speculation
that they and the Hestians are avoiding and/or spying upon each other.
Thorheim puts his ample supply of gems to good use and befriends a
local jail guard. Word has it that the foreigners (i.e. Shionna, Kostbera,
Tusa, and the two crews) have been arrested as spies on behalf of
the Hestians, and that the locals authorities don't like the Hestian
manipulation of their authority. The trial will not be public, and
awaits the arrival of some important people from New Husavik (the
capital city). |
| Enyalios 22 (Lencten 22) |
Wethrin and Thorheim spend the next few
days watching the eastern town gate. After 4 days, they see an important-lookng
set of people approach; well-dressed bureaucrats/clergy on horses,
guarded by swaggering, multi-raced mercenaries. One mercenary looks
farmiliar ... Raff! Wethrin and Thorheim discretely follow
them to the courthouse; when the mercenaries are dismissed for the
rest of the day, they head to a pleasant tavern. Thorheim goes in
and catches the (very surprised) eye of Raff; meanwhile Wethrin outside
is suddenly joined by one of the mercenaries. |
| |
Raff introduces his associates: Darkmoon,
a legendary Elf pirate (so she claims); Aelyina, a Elf pyromaniac;
Arlephone, a more reserved Human; and some Part-Elf bozo named
Sulfy who looks more like a toy-boy for the three women than anything
capable of being a mercenary. (note: this
group is in fact part of the surviving party of the Troll
Caves adventure in the Hobbitika campaign). Soon Wethrin and
Thorheim join the mercenaries for a beer or three and cautiously exchange
tales ... |
